A Second Day in Lima

A day in Lima gives you time to walk
in the colonial quarter, visiting the Plaza de Armas and entering
the 1599 La Iglesia y Convento de Santo Domingo, Lima's oldest
convent; the 1758 La Catedral; and the 1674 La Iglesia y Convento
de San Francisco, the most spectacular of Lima's colonial-era
churches. In contrast to the religious structures is the 1735
Torre Tagle Palace. Luncheon of French-Peruvian cuisine at L'Eau
Vive Restaurant before an afternoon at the Museo Larco and Museo
Amano. Dine out at the extraordinary Huaca Pucllana restaurant
and overnight in the Country Club Lima Hotel.
A second day in Lima allows time for
a morning drive to Pachacamac, the most reknowned pre-Inca and
Inca pilgrimage site of the coast, a buffet luncheon of typical
cuisine at El Señorio de Sulco before continuing to the
Gold of Peru Museum or another museum of your choice, dinner
of classic Peruvian cuisine at Las Brujas de Cachiche and overnight
in the Country Club Lima Hotel.

An Extra Day in Cuzco
Land Price (2 days/1 night)
Royal US$ 935 Imperial US$
735 De
Luxe US$ 650
An extra day in Cuzco provides an afternoon
to stroll around this miraculously-preserved Inca and colonial
city. The artisans' quarter of San Blas and colonial monuments
are recommended. The tourist ticket provided by Inka's will give
you admittance into sites that can't be included in a one-day
excursion. On a morning excursion the next day, follow the route
and relive the sights of travelers who arrived in the imperial
city of the Incas on the Collasuyu Road, from the southern quarter
of the empire. Pass through the ancient gate of Rumicolca, gaze
at the pre-Inca ruins of Pikillaqta, taste the traditional bread
of Oropesa and admire Tipon, a royal garden of Inca Wiracocha.
Lunch of Italian-Peruvian cuisine at Incanto. Dinner of Mediterranean
cuisine at La Cicciolina. Overnight in the Orient-Express Hotel
Monasterio.

Royal Inca Trail
Land Price (No extra days or nights)
Free upgrade from any
tour with an overnight in Machu Picchu
The Royal Inca Trail is believed to
be the ceremonial path that the Inca ruling caste used for ritual
purification before entering the sacred site of Machu Picchu.
It allows a taste of the Inca Trail without days of hiking and
camping. We begin the hike from the train stop at Kilometer 104
and follow the trail for six hours to the spectacular view of
Machu Picchu from Intipunku, the Sun Gate. From here, we descend
into the world-famous "Lost City of the Incas".

Hiram Bingham Orient-Express to Machu Picchu
Land Price (No extra days or nights)
Free upgrade from any
tour with an overnight in Machu Picchu
All services, including
a shared guide, are provided by Orient-Express Hotels.
At around noon, on July 23, 1911, an
explorer named Hiram Bingham climbed up a steep hill and stumbled
onto Machu Picchu, uncovering what had been up until that moment,
the Incas' best kept secret. The world was stunned by his discovery.
PeruRail's luxury train service between Cuzco and Machu
Picchu is named after the American explorer who discovered the
stunning ruins of the ancient citadel.
The distinctive blue-and-gold carriages of
the Hiram Bingham are warm and inviting, with elegant interior
upholstery. The train, consisting of four luxurious passenger
cars, two dining cars, a bar car and a kitchen car, can carry
up to 84 passengers. The general style of the carriages is in
line with those on PeruRail's "Andean Explorer" train,
which operates between Cuzco and Lake Titicaca in Southern Peru,
and reflects the luxury of the 1920s Pullman era.

An Extra Day in the Sacred Valley
Land Price (2 days/1 night)
Royal US$ 910 Imperial US$
450 De
Luxe US$ 395
An extra day in the Sacred Valley gives
you time for a leisurely visit to the weaver's village of Chinchero
for a private demonstration of ancient textile techniques, the
age-old salt mines below the colonial town of Maras, the Moray
archaeological site and a typical lunch in the patio of a country
restaurant. Includes dinner of nouvelle Andean cuisine at Killa Wasi and overnight
in a suite or bungalow at the Sol y Luna Lodge.

Weavers' Way
Land Price (4 days/3 nights)
Royal US$ 1,150 Imperial US$
975 De
Luxe US$ 920
This short trek in the Sacred Valley
of the Incas begins at the colonial village of Lares, with its
delightful hot springs baths, and ends with a road journey to
the famous "living Inca settlement" of Ollantaytambo.
In between, we follow a hiking route that skirts the northern
slope of the Cordillera. Here, the Quechua people maintain an
ancient way of life, herding alpacas and llamas, farming the
Andean slopes and practicing a tradition inherited from their
Inca ancestors: the making and wearing of superb textiles.

Shaman's Ceremony by Honorato Ninantay Guzman
Honorarium (No extra days or nights)
US$ 100
This honored shaman will conduct a tribute
to Mother Earth, an ancient ceremony still observed by the indigenous
people of Peru. It consists in making an offering to Pacha Mama
(Mother Earth) so that agricultural production will improve.
To perform this activity, the materials utilized are sweet red
wine, coca leaves, firewood, chicha de jora (an alcoholic beverage
made from purple corn), red carnations, yellow carnations, white
carnations and other traditional items.
Additionally, the shaman places a typical
shawl on an altar and speaks some prayers in Quechua, asking
the Apus (mountain spirits) and Mother Earth to help the fields
produce better and more abundant crops and livestock. The altar
is burned and buried in the earth. While this is what is generally
done, the ceremony (which lasts about one and one-half hours)
can vary between one shaman and another. Other traditional rituals
are possible, if requested in advance. Among these are exorcising
witchcraft, reading coca leaves and cards to foresee a person's
future, calling a wandering soul back into its body and removing
evil winds, also called negative energy or the evil eye.

Discover the magic of the Peruvian Paso
horse, and the grandeur of its native land, in a way few are
privileged to experience. Perol Chico, the premier riding center
in Peru, offers exclusive horseback riding tours on Peruvian
Paso horses. It specializes in multi-day equestrian tours off
the beaten track.

Urubamba River White-Water Rafting
Land Price (2 days/1 night)
Royal US$ 570 Imperial US$
400 De
Luxe US$ 345
This rafting adventure on a beautiful
section of the Urubamba River is for just about everyone -- no
experience is needed. The river starts gently, with time to practice
the maneuvers required, then builds up with more challenging
rapids through a beautiful canyon, where we will see torrent
ducks and views of the surrounding peaks.

A Hot-Air Balloon Ride Over the Sacred Valley
Flight Price (No extra days or nights)
US$ 460
I think that there are few pleasures
as grand as drifting slowly over the earth in an open basket.
It's romantic, it's breathtaking, it's a journey you'll never
forget. It's a world filled with beauty, excitement and adventure.
A balloon ride is a thrill that is indescribable. The silent
beauty of floating hundreds of feet over the beautiful Sacred
Valley, watching the wonderful hills covered with snow, the cultivated
fields, the Vilcanota river.

Manu
Cloud Forest
Land Price (3 days/2 nights)
Private US$
800
Set off from Cuzco for the cloud forest,
passing over two Andean chains of almost 13,100 feet in elevation
and descending the eastern slope of the Andes. After passing
pre-Inca ruins and one of Peru's most colorful pueblos, we plunge
downward through swirling mist and clouds to emerge in a forest
of dwarf, evergreen trees before arriving at the display ground
of the blazing-red Andean cock-of-the-rock. Witness these birds'
elaborate mating dance and explore the forest trails to see high-elevation
cloud-forest birds, common woolly monkeys, brown capuchin monkeys
or even a spectacled bear.

An Extra Day at Lake Titicaca
Land Price (2 days/1 night)
Imperial US$
345
An extra day at Lake Titicaca gives
you time for a private yacht voyage to traditional Taquile Island,
and to fully appreciate the noble archaeological site of Sillustanti
and Pukara, where the origins of Andean culture are discovered.
Along the way are the poetic pueblo of Lampa and the natural
stone sculptures of Tinajani.

Tiwanaku
Land Price (2 days/1 night)
Imperial US$
535
At the peak of the Aymara civilization
in 700 A.D., Tiwanaku is believed to have been the largest city
in the world with more than 100,000 inhabitants. When the Incas
discovered the deserted city around 1200 A.D., they were inspired
by the advanced agricultural techniques and the monolithic architecture
of the ancient Aymara. Here, you will appreciate La Puerta del
Sol (The Door of the Sun), the Templo de Akapana, the Templo
de Kalasasaya, the Templete Semisubterraneo (Sunken Courtyard)
and the site museums of ceramics and stone sculpture.

"I realized that we were witnessing
a once-in-a-lifetime experience... Not only did we see the huge
condors soaring past on their 9-foot wingspan, but two young
birds decided to land about 10 meters from us and proceeded to
perch and preen for our cameras." Your private, overland
expedition sets out from the colonial city of Arequipa, under
the inspiring Misti volcano in southern Peru. As you pass through
a remote terrain of vicuñas and volcanoes, you note pueblos
all but forgotten since Spanish days and vestiges of a culture
that dates back two millennia. At last, you reach the rim of
one of the world's deepest canyons, the Colca, on whose sheer
cliff face live the magnificent Andean condors.

One of the most baffling enigmas in
all archaeology... On the south coast of Peru, using as their
canvas a plateau 37 miles long and 15 miles wide, Nazca artists
etched works of monumental proportion: a montage of geometric
designs and whimsical portrayals of plants and animals, such
as the hummingbird, fish, dog, lizard, puma, spider, condor and
monkey. On this private chauffeured excursion, a longer-than-usual
overflight of the Nazca Lines is complemented by a visit to the
regional museum's collection of vivid polychrome ceramics and
world-reknowned Paracas textiles, while a boat trip to see the
amazing profusion of sea life on nearby islands reveals some
of the animals that inspired the artistic motifs.
